Read on to learn more about some of this year's upcoming holiday events and tours in Delaware.

Gift of Lights at Dover Motor Speedway

The inaugural Gift of Lights event will surely become an annual Kent County holiday tradition! The Gift of Lights drive-thru light show is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. The show takes place at Dover Motor Speedway from November 24, 2022 to January 1, 2023 and features almost two miles of dazzling holiday scenes. Get your family in the car, turn up some classic holiday tunes and enjoy a warm, comfortable ride through the colorful Christmas landscape.

Want to save on tickets with discounted admission? Take part in a theme night, like Pajama Night on November 28 or Christmas Sweater Night on December 6. If your car follows the theme, you'll get $5 off the ticket price at the gate. You can find more information about themed events on the event calendar.

The event's hours throughout the season include:

  • Thanksgiving to December 8: Sunday to Thursday from 4:30 p.m.-9 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
  • December 9 to December 26: Open nightly from 4:30 p.m.-10 p.m.

A Farmer's Christmas in Kent County, Delaware

Another annual tradition, A Farmer's Christmas transforms the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village into an old-fashioned holiday wonderland for visitors of all ages.

Experience a 19th-century Christmas in the Delaware countryside with live craft demonstrations from artisans, holiday music and hot mulled cider. Kids can take pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus down the Avenue of Trees and try making old-fashioned holiday crafts like yarn dolls and bead wreaths in the main building. Finish the night with some spooky Christmas ghost stories in the train station — if you dare.

A Farmer's Christmas is open from November 26 to December 17. If you want to see the rest of the Museum, the main exhibitions are open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Visit the Delaware Agricultural Museum's website for more information about admission and special events, and check the event's Facebook page for updates.

Holiday Extravaganza at Evergreen Farms

Head to Evergreen Farms on Saturday, December 3 for an afternoon of festive family fun. With more than 20 gift and craft vendors on site, you can get a major head start on your holiday shopping. Be sure to browse the trees while you're there — there will be a special on garlands and wreaths, so you can get everything you need to decorate for the season.

Plenty of entertainment will be available for the little ones, including a petting zoo, face painting and pony rides. Stay for live music and lunch from the Taco Jardin food truck. Adult beverages will also be available for those who are of age.

The Extravaganza will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Admission to the event is free for all ages. Visit Evergreen Farms' website for more information, and check their Facebook page for event updates.

Tree Lighting and Parade in Dover

Kick off the holiday season by gathering in front of City Hall for one of our favorite holiday events in Delaware — the annual tree lighting on Thursday, December 1. Bring the whole family to take photos with Santa Claus, sample some tasty winter snacks and enjoy live holiday music. All are encouraged to bring a donation of non-perishable food items to benefit local charities to spread the holiday cheer.

Come back to Loockerman Street at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, December 9 for the annual Dashing Through Downtown Dover parade. Featuring festive floats, lights and even an appearance from Santa himself, the parade is a great way to engage in some family-friendly holiday fun. Check the parade's official Facebook page to keep up with event updates.

Annual Holiday Stroll in Milford

If you're in the mood for old-fashioned Christmas fun, be sure to attend the 17th Annual Holiday Stroll in historic downtown Milford. Soak in the beautiful holiday decorations as you browse participating shops and galleries. Complimentary treats, live music and a firetruck display will delight the whole family.

Once you've explored the main street, head down to the Riverwalk Farmers Market park for the third annual Christmas Market. The Market will feature a variety of local vendors and artisans, so you can find unique treasures for everyone on your list.

The Holiday Stroll will take place on South Walnut Street on Saturday, December 3 from 3 p.m.-8 p.m. and will continue snow or shine. Visit Downtown Milford Inc.'s official Facebook page for more event information and updates.

Ice Skating at Tre Sorelle Dolce

Bundle up in your favorite coat and skate the evening away at Tre Sorelle Dolce's ice rink in Wyoming. Beginning in November and running through late February, the ice rink is open for skating rain or shine.

Because the rink is made of synthetic ice, you can only use hockey skates. No skates? No problem! You can rent a pair for $5 at the counter.

Once you're done skating, warm up inside with a hot chocolate or espresso drink. Or, if you can't get enough of the cold, order one of the parlor's various ice cream creations.

Unaccompanied skaters must be at least 16 years old with a valid driver's license. Younger children may also skate as long as they are with an adult who has a valid driver's license. Purchase skating tickets in advance or find more information on the official website.
