Kent County Tourism Corporation & Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce Invite

Businesses to Participate in City of Dover’s 300th Birthday Celebration

Dover, DE –Kent County Tourism Corporation and the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce are inviting all businesses to help celebrate Dover’s 300th Birthday by announcing “Happy 300th Birthday Dover” on their marquees.

Everyone with a marquee is being asked to display their well wishes for Dover’s 300th Birthday starting on May 4th and keeping it up through May 8th as the community comes together for the 84th Annual Dover Days Festival.

“It’s a great way for businesses to get involved and show some community pride”, says Judy Diogo, President of Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce.  “We thought this would be a fun and really inexpensive way for every business, church, and non-profit with a marquee to wish Dover a Happy 300th Birthday!”

The 84th Annual Dover Days Festival will take place May 5th & May 6th in Downtown Historic Dover and will serve as a kick-off to a yearlong celebration of events for the City of Dover’s 300th Birthday.

“The theme of this year’s Dover Days is the 300th Birthday of Dover and we’ve planned many fun activities around the theme” said Wendie Vestfall, Executive Director of Kent County Tourism Corporation.  “On Friday, we are asking everyone to come out to the festival for a happy Birthday sing-along with kazoos. We will have a special 300th birthday cake made by La Baguette Bakery.  Mayor Christiansen and the Dover City Council will be cutting pieces of cake and volunteers will be handing out cake to kids and adults before the fireworks.” Vestfall added that the theme will continue into Saturday with the parade at 9am. Where over a hundred floats, bands and marching groups will be decked out in their Birthday decorations. The festival has also added new entertainment which includes circus acts, street performances and so much more!

Both the Chamber and Tourism Office will be taking pictures of Dover marquees and posting them online and on social media to share with the community.  You can also send photos of your marquee to jdoerfler@visitdelawarevillages.com and hpatosky@cdcc.net.
