First Saturday in the First State: Salute to Summer

Join the Heritage Park for the monthly First Saturday in the First State program. The many partners provide special thematic programming that changes each month.  Here is a list of programs for "Salute to Summer" on June 1:  Its something new every month!  #FirstSaturday   #FirstState First Saturday – June 2: Celebrating Summer Biggs Kids: Beach Buckets  9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  Biggs Museum  Kick off those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer by making your own beach bucket craft. The Invention of Childhood: Being a Kid in the 18th and 19th Centuries 9:30, 10:30, 11:30 a.m., 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30 and 4 p.m.  John Bell House  What was it like to be a kid in times past? How was it different? How was it the same? Explore the evolution of childhood and kid culture through history. Guided Tours  9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  Legislative Hall  Delaware’s Forgotten Naval Hero: Jacob Jones 1 p.m.  The Old State House  This historic theater program examines the lives of two of Delaware’s War of 1812 and their drastically different experiences in the war.  Turn of the Century Inventors  9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.  Johnson Victrola Museum Guided tours will focus on the late 19th and early 20th century inventors – Edison, Ford, Tesla, Bell, Johnson and Berliner – to learn of their contributions to the modern world. They Fought for the Union  10:30 a.m. Delaware Public Archives Delaware author Jeffrey Biggs will focus on the wartime service of the First Delaware Regiment from the outbreak of the Civil War to the surrender at Appomattox.  Trades of The Green Walking Tour 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.  John Bell House Explore the many skilled and unskilled trades once practiced on The Green in the past.  Tours of the Governor’s House 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Woodburn – The Governor’s House  The Once and Future Courthouse 1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m.  Kent County Courthouse, 38 The Green From the 1690s to the present, learn how this building went from a courthouse to a hotel and back again.
