First Saturdays in the First State!
FREE programs and events are offered on the first Saturday of each month. Sites are open 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., except Woodburn, Hall House, and the Kent County Courthouse.

Reaching for the Stars
9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Annie Jump Cannon, celebrated
astronomer, grew up in Dover, looking
at the stars and dreaming of the future
at her family home. Learn more about
her accomplishments. Join us on the
half hour for a short historical theater
performance.
John Bell House on the Green

Biggs Kids
9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Children can enjoy a craft guided by
museum staff.
Biggs Museum of American Art

Dreams of a Victor
9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Guided tours will highlight the life and
times of E.R. Johnson, the founder of the
Victor Talking Machine Company. Visitors
will learn how a humble machinist
from Delaware created one of the most
successful companies of the 20th century.

Dreaming of Dover: William Penn
and the creation of our city
9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Guided tours will focus on William Penn’s
role in founding the city of Dover, dating
as far back as 1683.

Tour Delaware’s State Capitol building,
experience Delaware history, and find out
how one remarkable woman's vision helped
shape the aesthetic of Dover as we know it.

Enjoy guided tours of the official
residence of Delaware’s Governor since
1965 and discover how one indomitable
First Lady made it all happen.

Dover’s Heroes of the Revolution
10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Dover was a hotbed of activity during the
struggle for American Independence.

War Beneath the Waves: U.S.
Submarine Operations in World War II
10:30 a.m.
Former Commandant of Midshipman
at the U.S. Naval Academy, Robert Clark
will present on the history of the U.S.
Submarine Forces during World War II
and reflect on how the lessons learned are
still applied today.

Science Fiction into Science Fact
1:30 – 4 p.m.
Motivated by the magic of science
fiction, discover which inventions have
connections to Delaware. Explore things
that started as imagination and became
reality.

The Once and Future Courthouse
1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m.
From the 1690s to the present, learn how
this site went from a courthouse to a hotel
and back again.
