TRADE IN YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE FOR A FEW STRESS-FREE SUMMER DAYS ALONG THE BAY!
We could all use a change of scenery right about now. Contemplate life on the secluded beaches of the Delaware Bay. Take a quiet drive through the remote fields of the Amish Countryside. Or go fishing on one of our waterways.
Don’t miss the 42nd Annual June Jam Music Festival (usually held in June, but on August 15th this year.) This outdoor festival is held at G&R Campground in Houston, where you can pitch a tent, enjoy nature and hear live music by Jason Morton and The Chesapeake Sons, Petting Hendrix, Johnny Neel and more.
OUR BAY BEACHES AND NATURE BOARDWALKS.
Nothing revives the spirit more than a walk near the water. Abbott’s Mill Nature Center in Milford features pet-friendly trails, kayak rentals, and a beautiful nature boardwalk. St. Jones Reserve in Dover also has a scenic boardwalk, along with a two-mile nature trail through protected lands. If you want to get your toes in the sand, though, visit one of our Delaware Bay beaches with views that seem to reach toward infinity.
IN THE TASTES OF SUMMER.
Infuse your getaway with some local flavor. easySpeak Spirits in Milford makes craft cocktails using local ingredients and spirits distilled on site, plus wood-smoked entrees. Their outdoor patio is perfect for a summer evening. Maverick Texas BBQ in Smyrna satisfies your summer cravings with smoky brisket, pulled pork and down-home beans. Afterward, take a tour of the region featuring Delaware’s Quaint Villages’ favorite ice cream shoppes.
WITH A LITTLE CASINO ACTION.
Forget about everyday life for a while over some casino table games and slot machines. Dover Downs Hotel & Casino offers luxurious accommodations and games, open 24 hours on weekends. Harrington Raceway & Casino is also open 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays, plus race simulcasts, allowing you to bet on harness races while socially distancing.
OUR AGRICULTURAL HERITAGE.
The Delaware Agricultural Museum & Village in Dover, is open for self-guided outdoor tours of its 1890s village with historic buildings depicting what it was like to live and farm in the rural areas at the turn of the 20th century. In Harrington, the theme continues at the Messick's Agriculture Museum, where you’ll find antique machinery, tools and farming memorabilia on a self-guided tour.
