There’s fun for everyone in Kent County! Attend the Friends of Folk Concert Series to hear the Celtic and folk strains of Ronn McFarlane. See how many birds you can spot during the Great Backyard Bird Count: Kent County Tour at Abbott’s Mill Nature Center. And celebrate African American History Month with programs and tours at First State Heritage Park’s African Americans and the Vote: First Saturdays in the First State.

Known as “The Cradle of American Methodism” and the oldest surviving Methodist church in the US, our c.1780 Barratt’s Chapel & Museum is an historical gem. Our Air Mobility Command Museum houses over 30 aircraft, from cargo haulers to presidential aircraft. Our hiking trails show off our natural beauty—here’s a list of places where you can find them. And your pilgrimage along the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway uncovers historical stops along the way in Kent County, Delaware.

First State history.

Kent County is filled with notable historic landmarks! Though only built in the 1930s, Legislative Hall serves as the state capital building for our nation’s first state, Delaware. The original capital, the Old State House, still stands on The Green. Free tours are available for both. Across town, you’ll find the John Dickinson Plantation, home to a founding father and signer of the Constitution.
