For quicker service and more of a breakfast on-the-go, visit Helen’s Sausage House for their delicious sausage breakfast sandwiches. It’s a popular Smyrna spot, so be prepared for a bit of a line, but the sausage will be the worth the wait.
For lunch, a visit to BuzzFeed’s pick as the Best Irish Bar in Delaware, Sheridan’s Pub, is a must. Ask for a seat on the rooftop patio and choose from menu favorites like Chicken Jameson Ciabatta, Corned Beef and Cabbage or Sausage and Mash.
There’s no shortage of dinner spots in Smyrna that are great for family or date-night dining.
May we suggest a few menu must-haves from Brick Works Brewing and Eats? Start with an order of Beer Mussels and Brisket and Bleu Cheese Spring Rolls, order the Cornmeal Crusted Catfish or Crispy Brick Chicken for an entrée, and pair them both with one of their Smyrna-made beers.
Seafood lovers will like the off-the-beaten path Boondocks Restaurant, a few miles outside Smyrna on Lighthouse Road. The locals know it’s the place that serves every type of seafood you can imagine and a place you should order the “Swamp Water”—the restaurant’s signature cocktail that owner Pat Keeler has been making since the 1980s.
Bramare italiano? Trevi Ristorante menu is filled with dishes made from some of the best homemade pasta in the area, making it the go-to Italian restaurant for locals. Large portions, wonderful steamed clams and occasional live music make this a popular date night spot.
Lemon Leaf Café is Smyrna’s white table cloth experience with weeknight specials for Guys Night, Ladies Night and Kids Eat Free Wednesday’s. The restaurant hosts banquets and offers on-and-off site catering for special events, too.
Explore Smyrna’s art, history and culture
The Smyrna Museum dates back to the 1700s and consists of The Plank House and The Barracks. It’s the site of the State of Delaware’s first Draft Lottery, in 1863 during the Civil War, and houses historic paintings, furnishings and hosts special exhibits every month.
Historic Belmont Hall is one of the most treasured and historic houses in Delaware. The Georgian mansion was built in 1773 by Thomas Collins, the eighth governor of Delaware. The property is surrounded by large trees, rolling lawns and lush gardens and is quite often a wedding venue for couples looking to tie the knot in Kent County.
Be sure to call ahead for availability or for a guided tour of either museum.
If outdoor activities are more your exploration style, consider birding at Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, hiking the trails at Blackbird Forest Park or exploring Willow Rock Gardens.
For libations like locally brewed craft beers and libations and cocktails—consider a stop at Blue Earl Brewing or Painted Stave Distilling. Blue Earl recently opened Blue Earl Brewing’s Juke Box, serving everything from cured charcuterie and cheese plates to barbecue and bratwurst.
Visit Painted Stave Distilling, grab a seat at the bar, and order a Diamond State Manhattan or Pig Pen Martini, crafted with spirits created in-house.
Lastly, enjoy tax-free boutique and specialty shopping in the easy-to-maneuver and get around downtown area.
