Family-Fun Things to do in Delaware’s Quaint Villages

Pack up the kids and hit the road to Kent County, Delaware for a long weekend filled with fun, laughter, and new discoveries. Delaware’s Quaint Villages are closer than you think. With a short drive from major Mid-Atlantic regions including Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington DC – Kent County, Delaware is the ideal place to escape with the entire family. From mini-golfing, exploring family-farms, military aircrafts, charter fishing, to kayaking – there is something for everyone to enjoy!

Learn about America’s aviation history at the Air Mobility Command Museum. This one-of-a-kind unique museum houses over 30 different aircraft varying in roles and sizes. Marvel at the various exhibits, climb aboard the Control Tower, enjoy a free flight simulator, and so much more.

Discover the ecology and natural history of the Delaware Bay at the DuPont Nature Center.  Open from April through September, DuPont Nature Center is surrounded by tidal marshes and estuary habitats that include more than 130 species of fish, shellfish, birds, and other various animals. 

With a strong connection to the agricultural industry in the state, Kent County offers some great spots for family farm adventures and museums dedicated to preserving the history of the farming. Pick up your favorite seasonal fruits and vegetables, homemade ice cream, canned goods, and more at Fifer Orchards & Country Store. Fifer Orchards is home to family-friendly experiences including U-Pick, corn maze fun, kid-friendly activities and more.  

If you’re in Harrington, don’t miss the Messick Agriculture Museum. Take a self-guided tour of antique machinery, automobiles, tools, and farming memorabilia. Keep up with the theme, and head to the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village. Explore what rural life in Delaware was like in the 1800s with exhibits, farming equipment, historical structures, artifacts and more.

If you’re looking for a beach day filled with fun and sun, head to Bowers Beach. Pack up a lunch and pop up your beach chair. Sit back and relish in the sights and sounds of the Delaware Bay. Don’t forget to bring the kid’s favorite beach toys!  Or spend the day charter fishing with Captain Lady’s Charters. Drop your line and fish at some of the best spots along the Delaware Bay.

Get outdoors and spend the day at Delaware’s Killens Pond State Park.  Discover countless outdoor recreation activities including a seasonal waterpark, kayak rentals, wooded hiking trails, nature center, fishing pond, secluded camping and much more.  Or head to Milford and spend some time at Abbott’s Mill Nature Center. Here, you can rent a stand-up paddleboard, stroll along pet-friendly trails, explore a nature center or tour an historic working grist mill.

Don’t forget to take a picture in front of Delaware’s Quaint Villages’ favorite monster, Miles the Monster at Dover International Speedway. This 40,000-ton statue stands in front of the speedway’s track and is one of Delaware’s most iconic monuments.

Explore your creative side and take a kid-friendly art class at one of the many art galleries in Delaware’s Quaint Villages. Check out the Dover Art League or Milford’s Mispillion Art League.  Sign up in advance and take home a piece of handmade art for cherish memories.

Ice cream and putt-putt go together at Camden’s Tre- Sorelle Dolce Ice Cream & Italian Ice.  Spend the evening with your favorite frozen treat and a friendly game of mini golf.

Grab your roller skates and hit the rink for a beloved adventure of the pastime at the Dover Skate Center. Enjoy open skate, teen & family night and other various specials and activities throughout the week.

Or hit the ice for ice skating fun at the Centre Ice Arena at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington. This ice-skating rink is open seasonally and is a great family-friendly activity.
