Thunder Over Dover will be taking place the weekend of May 21-22 at the Dover Air Force Base. This classic Air Force Open House gives the community a chance to learn more about the United States military and the base’s contributions to America’s national defense.
There are plenty of exciting events to enjoy including performances by the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels as well as other fun aerial displays. With free admission and parking, this family-friendly event is sure to be a great time!
Thunderbirds!
The U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbirds, return to the Dover Air Force Base for 2022's Thunder Over Dover. The Thunderbirds' incredible presentation aims to inspire the community with the Air Force's professionalism and expertise. Look out for the premier fighter jet, the F-16 Fighting Falcon, as it effortlessly maneuvers the sky.
The demonstration consists of six aircrafts performing group and solo formations. Showcasing the Air Force squadron's incredible capabilities, you'll remember for years to come.
Blue Angels!
Thunder Over Dover will also welcome the incredible U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, as co-headliners for this year's Thunder Over Dover! In their awe-inspiring aerial show, the Blue Angels test the limits of aerial maneuvers and team work.
Other Acts and Demos
Thunder Over Dover has plenty more to see too! Whether it's a still or elevated exhibition, there are multiple ways to enjoy the weekend.
Here are the additional aerial acts planned:
- C-5M Super Galaxy: With a wingspan of nearly 68 feet, the C-5M Super Galaxy is the biggest aircraft in the Air Force's inventory. The craft usually transports cargo of up to 280,000 pounds. Be sure to check out its flyover!
- C-17 Demo Team: The C-17 Globemaster III performs many crucial functions for the Airforce, from troop and cargo transport to emergency evacuations. Its flexible nature allows for impressive capabilities. The C-17 Demo Team promises an extraordinary demonstration during Thunder Over Dover.
- Black Daggers: The U.S. Army Special Operations Command Parachute Demonstration Team, also known as the Black Daggers, use ram-air parachutes and flexible wing gliders to display amazing free-falling. Don't miss their stellar performance!
- USMC Harrier Demo: The U.S. Marine Corps' AV-8B will demonstrate its impressive abilities during this year's event.
The event will also feature several displays:
- Air Mobility: Command Museum: The Dover Air Museum is open during Thunder Over Dover. Browse the incredible aircraft, exhibits and interactive videos during your weekend.
- KC-46 Pegasus: Thunder Over Dover presents the KC-46 Pegasus as a static display for the weekend. Usually used for airlifts and refueling, the KC-46 is sure to awe you.
- T-6A Texan II: Used to help train Joint Primary Pilot Training (JPPT) students, the T-6A is a responsive aircraft aspiring pilots will want to see.
