Become your own artist at the Big Draw Festival!

Take your creativity to the next level at the 2020 Big Draw Festival taking place in downtown Milford, Delaware. During the month of October, the Mispillion Art League will offer over 15 different workshops and hands-on classes suitable for artists and doodlers of all skill-levels. This event is perfect for families to enjoy! Participate in art-making and reap the benefits of self-expression by creating your own unique works of art. Friday, October 2nd: Shibori Dyed Silk Scarves

Learn about Shibori, the Japanese method of dyeing that includes folding, wrapping and compression to create various patterns on fabric. During this class, you will be able to create a shimmering pleated silk to wear or to hang as a piece of art. Supplies are included! Find more information here.

Wednesday, October 7th: Nature Journaling

Be prepared to go outdoors to practice the art of nature journaling!  During this class, you’ll learn the simple techniques of keeping a journal and ways to appreciate the natural environment we live in. Wednesday, October 7th: Traditional Mexican Decorative Art

Learn the artistic style of classic Mexican folk art with figures and objects that are big in design and color! See demonstrations and take home your very own special piece to brighten you home! This class is open for all ages with materials included.  Let’s make something fun!

Friday, October 9th: Nuno Felted Art Cloth

Create textile art you can wear or display using hand-dyed wool and pieces of silk. Learn the method of Nuno Felting to create something wholly unique. Supplies are included, beginner level skills are welcomed. Let’s create something new!

Saturday, October 10th: Reusing Old Canvas to Create New Art

Learn how to create new acrylic paintings on top of used canvases. All materials are included. Sign up today. 

Tuesday, October 13th: Mixed Media Collage

Make a fun and new artistic creation using paint, paper, and glue. During this class, you’ll learn to create a collage on a stretched canvas.  Feel free to bring your own photos you want to include from glossy magazines, scrapbook papers, old calendars, and any other papers appropriate for collaging.  All materials are provided. Create your new work of art!

Wednesday, October 14th: Using alcohol inks to give new life to old glassware

Bring in an old piece of glass or ceramic pot that you want to brighten up and give the illusion of stained glass. During this session, you’ll discover the ways of using ink to give a new look to old glassware and ceramic pieces. No drawing or art experience needed. Be sure to wear old clothes as the ink will stain. Register today.

Saturday, October 17th: Monoprint Leaves

Create a variety of cards or printed papers using fall leaves. Have fun with acrylics paints, gel plates, and brayers to create unique prints. Bring in a variety of shaped leaves and wear old clothes you don’t mind getting paint on! Learn more about this FREE class!

Saturday, October 17th: Terrific Tiles

Learn the ways to reduce, reuse and recycle by painting various symbols on old tiles. During this lesson, you’ll learn how to use acrylic enamel paint to outline several designs with a permanent marker. At the end of the class, you’ll be able to bring home your finished tiles home! Saturday, October 17th: Photo Safari: Fall at Abbott’s Mill

Explore all the photographic opportunities at Milford’s Abbott’s Mill Nature Center. Take a safari through boardwalk paths and other areas around Abbott’s Pond. Take in the fall foliage, discuss techniques, and collaborate on ideas for photos. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring your own camera to capture Delaware’s beauty! More information here.

Wednesday, October 21st: Watercolor Paintings of Crystal and Glass

During this course, you’ll be challenged to think outside the box with watercolors. Discover how to capture sharp crystal glass with various blending and softening practices. You’ll also learn how to paint opposite of the normal watercolor using various methods.  Discover more here.

Thursday, October 22nd: Garden Sandcast Art Creation

Bring home your own imaginative sun plaque or steppingstone- perfect for your garden! This class will involve the use of sand, cardboard, and recycle boxes to create molds. Bits of glass and colored sand will be available to elaborate your design! Be sure to wear old clothes and bring rubber gloves. Materials are provided. Sign up in advance!

Friday, October 23rd: Senior (50+) Art Workshops

There will be two separate workshops to join, nature journaling and painting acrylics. Be sure to sign up early!
